Forward March
…From the pages of South Jersey Magazine…
Believe it or not, later this month we’ll mark the official first day of spring. I know it’s hard to imagine after Old Man Winter blanketed us with some serious snow last month, but it’s true. (While some may have enjoyed the record-breaking snowfall, I stand with those who would prefer a little less powder next year.) But one of the great things about our area is the changing of the seasons. Without this harsh winter, would the arrival of spring mean as much? Probably not.
To help you warm up a little, check out the upcoming fashion trends in our annual spring fashion guide (pg. 58). Our stylists worked with several area retailers to find in-demand styles sure to turn more than a few heads. Two Cherry Hill natives, including former Miss FHM model Lauren Harris, help bring some of these looks to life, and the Aloft Hotel in Mount Laurel served as an energetic backdrop for our photo shoot.
We also tapped several local PGA pros to help us rank the area’s best golf courses, from here to the shore (pg. 36). As the weather breaks and all you duffers start cleaning off your drivers and hitting the range, you won’t want to miss finding out where on our list your favorite 18 holes rank. Unfortunately, our insider look at these wonderful courses won’t help with that slice.
On a more serious note, two stories in this month’s issue hit home for very different reasons. Only a few months removed from the devastation in Haiti, we take a look at the local effort to help a crippled country regain some type of normalcy (pg. 26). Scores of people from our area have lent a hand in the rebuilding effort, and we are happy to bring some of their stories to you. Also this month, we check in with three brothers who just a few years ago made national headlines after a horrific discovery in Collingswood that brought DYFS to its knees. The siblings, once starved and forced to live in unfathomable conditions, are now appreciating the family life they should have enjoyed in the first place, thanks to a loving husband and wife who welcomed the boys into their home. Their tale of triumph and resolve (pg. 72) is one of the most inspiring we’ve ever told, and it was an honor for us to be able to sit down with the family and share their story with our readers.
Be sure to check back next month, as we have plenty more exciting things in the works. For now, let’s just keep our fingers crossed that our shovels and snowblowers remain in the garage.
