Betting on the Future

by Peter Proko, Editor-In-Chief

There’s no hiding the fact that Atlantic City is fighting one of the toughest battles in its storied history. While state officials in Trenton to those along the coast are working hard to keep the gaming industry afloat, a new focus on making the city a destination for leisure is helping A.C. carve out a new identity. Remarkable restaurants, a buzzing nightlife and a topnotch entertainment calendar are stacking the deck in their favor.

After seeing countless prompts to “Do A.C.,” South Jersey Magazine decided to take a new approach for our annual Best of the Casinos roundup. We hit the town, from the Boardwalk to the Borgata, to discover the things away from the gaming floor that are making Atlantic City a winner. We’ll tell you where to book your next dinner reservation, where to dance the night away, and the spa treatments you’ll need to recover from it all. Once again, we’ve also traveled across the bridge to spotlight the best that Pennsylvania’s gaming properties have to offer. Odds are, after reading this, your next trip to the casinos will be a totally new experience.

Speaking of luck, we were fortunate to sit down with David Boreanaz for this month’s cover story. Though he toils in Hollywood now, the area native firmly holds onto his East Coast roots and tells us why his upbringing is still influencing his life today. You’ll also be introduced to our Men of the Year, an impressive collection of leaders who all share a common trait: the willingness to give and better the lives of others.

Last month, South Jersey Magazine published its annual Private High School Report Card. In gathering the data for the piece, we contacted our area schools to obtain information in various categories like SAT scores, tuition and much more. Unfortunately, some of the data was skewed because a few schools chose only to provide a small percentage of the total figures desired. Thus, we apologize for any confusion this may have caused and urge readers to use our piece as a springboard to learn more about these great learning institutions.

Kind regards,
